A dance hall built along the Guadalupe River near New Braunfels in 1878 has been named “Best Dance Hall in Texas” by Southern Living magazine.
Texas’s longest continually operating dance hall, Gruene Hall has been the site of a John Travolta dance scene in the 1996 movie “Michael,” and the spot for George Strait’s first album cover.
“I have many great memories of playing at Gruene Hall,” Strait once said. “It was definitely one of the highlights of my early career. Pat Molak, who owns it and I still consider a friend, let us play there one Sunday afternoon for, I think, 50 cents at the door. He had never heard us and wanted to check us out before he let us do a weekend night. This led to many great nights at one of Texas’ greatest dance halls.”
Located between San Antonio and Austin. Gruene Hall has hosted performances by Strait, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Tonya Tucker, Lyle Lovett, and Garth Brooks.
Gruene is listed on the National Register of Historic Places..

My brother just moved to Dallas and is having a good time, but hasn’t found a great bar to hang out in. Can you recommend one of these that is more of a dive bar, just some place to have drinks and play shuffleboard?

We have not reviewed any nightspots since 1996. Try some of the clubs on Beltline Road in Addison.

I have a brother lived in Austin and we’re planning to go there for a vacation by the end of the month. Sure thing we will go out and have fun. I’ll consider these places for a drink.
This looks like a pretty decent listing of the best hangout if your style is hopping around night clubs. I would check out every place suggested here. Thank you for the varied options.
If I will be visiting Texas, I will probably be needing this list of yours because i would love to visit the various clubs in that place. I am not actually into bar hopping but my friends told me that Texas has so many good and exciting bars.
Well what do you know, Gruene Hall a part of the best? It was never one for me since I’ve had a very sour and foul tasting shot of a screwdriver. I’d give it a 1 for the nice bartenders.
